In addition to standard resources such as original novels and textbooks, what are some good supplementary resources do you use? (study guides, multimedia)

One great website: www.shmoop.com does a compilation of study guide, multimedia, other websites, and interesting facts.

We don't really find the need for extra supplements, but at the moment we're enjoying unit studies from homeschoolshare.com. It's a nice break from our usual work and gives us a chance to put more focus on our science, while still doing a lot in the language arts department.

Every now and then we break out a workbook from the Critical Thinking Co., too. Usually if a skill needs extra work, or we're going to be on the go, these provide a quick and entertaining lesson to help keep skills from getting rusty or provide that extra boost to help with the writing practice.

It's also possible to hire online tutors, but the best tutoring is actually free, at least, initially. I know of at least one who works that way. You can evaluate the quality of the instruction before you pay anything. It might even be possible to request that a paid tutor provide a sample of his/her instruction.

We use free resources we find online. There are lots of free curriculum resources out there and depending on your states laws on homeschooling you may or may not qualify but it never hurts to look for them and ask to see if you can get them. Most are open to any homeschooler but sometimes you have to be registered with your state so that leaves out the states that don't have any kind of regulations or registration.
