Peace:
It does not meant to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.
It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

erring on the side of caution

Postby barabi51 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:02 pm

My mom was one of the more cautious ones (I heard once that one of my friends told a new kid my parents were "very strict") but we still played hide-and-seek around the neighbourhood at night till bedtime. But we weren't allowed to sled-ride on a snowy hill street unless the street had been blocked off, because my mom knew a kid who got hurt that way, from back when she was a kid.

We also walked around the block, with maybe one friend, at the age of eight or so, to buy a treat at the corner store. I would not let my kids do that now.

I used to bike to the branch library, maybe a couple of miles, when I was twelve or thirteen. I would not let my kids do that now.

But I still think you can't possibly prevent all accidents and injuries from happening, and that it's ridiculous to try to find someone to blame when they do happen.
Use the talents you possess, for the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except the best. --Henry van Dyke
