| Just stumbled across this site. We are a military family and have moved 5 times in the last 6 years. I have been homeschooling my oldest daughter 16 for 3 years, my 13 son for one year and next year I will also add my 12 year old daughter. I begin homeschooling my oldest because the transition from elementary school to middle school was so dramatic for her. I felt like the influences from friends and extremly liberal adult teachers was "undoing" all that her father and I had taught her throughout the years. After a year of designing her curriculam myself, we tried public school again with no change. I took her back out and I choose Alpha Omega life pacs and now we are using the online Penn Foster High School. My 13 year old, once outgoing and well liked again went through problems when starting 7th grade. Small for his age, he was picked on and in large classrooms teachers referred to him as the small kid or short kid and did not even know his name by Dec, even after meeting us at an open house and conferences! After being harassed on the school bus by 12th graders, yes they rode the same bus, we pulled him as well, and begun using SOSr2. We once thought of homeschooling as only short term until we moved again, now it will be a permanent thing for all of our children. I just wish I would have home schooled from the beginning! |
