How to get started from scratch?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started from scratch? I don't want my son to suffer cause I'm new at this....I've been using workbooks with him so far... How do I know if he's learning enough??

mjrgmom: If doing this on your own, you probably want to start with a packaged curriculum. There are a variety of these you can look at - Calvert, Sonlight, Bob Jones University (BJU), Covenant Home Curriculum, Christian Liberty Academy, etc. We have links to some of those here:

A better option, however, is to contact your local homeschool support group and get help from them on picking a curriculum and setting up a schedule. The average support group will have members representing a large variety of curriculums and methods, and you'll be able to direct feedback on what works and what doesn't. That's what support groups are there for:
