Here is a link that should be helpful. It describes the different methods of homeschooling. If you can't decide on just one, then you will be considered an eclectic homeschooler. That means you combine several methods. (and that is fine!)

When to start? It is just an individual decision. I believe when children are younger, they need lots of time to just play and use their imagination. I don't think they should be required to do tons of writing and sit still for long periods of time. You can do more 'hands on' activities, which can make school fun. I began teaching my children to read around age 5, but only if they are truly ready. Some kids are not ready until much older. When a child is in kindergarten (around age 5 or 6), their school work should not take very long to accomplish each day. It can be quite simple.

As far as curriculum, I would recommend that you read some reviews before making a decision. Here are some links where you can do that.

When you first start homeschooling, it can be overwhelming. The more you read about everything, the more you will understand. Soon you will feel confident. You will figure out which method and curriculum is right for your child. Best wishes.
