Dear homeschooling parents and children ,

I am a girl from Germany and I do a school report about homeschooling.
Three years ago I was in Geneva as an Au Pair in a family doing homeschooling. So I got very interested in this subject.

To get information about homeschooling I made a questionnaire for parents and children.
I hope you help me by filling out this questionnaire for me. If you want I can send you my school report when it´s finished. It´s in English…!

I would be very happy to hear from you and your children!

Questionnaire for parents:

1. How old are you?

35

2. Where do you come from?

I grew up military so I have been all over the U.S.

3. What means homeschooling for you?

Letting my kids learn as they go, I feel they learn better that way.

4. What were your concerns to start homeschooling wit your child or children?

I am not very good at english, I barely know what a noun and verb are, I was worried about teaching my kids what I don't know. Now I don't worry, they teach me as much as I teach them. We have a great set of books, support from family members, and I am learning along with my kids.

5. How do you think people learn best?

On a persons own schedule. My kids learn more when I let them learn. I don't push anything on them. They ask questions and I help them find the answers.

6. Did you prepare your self before starting homeschooling? How was the way of doing?

I got some books for us to use, and a schedule of PBS shows that teach math, phonics, reading, etc. We have a schedule, but don't follow it, it is more like a guideline.

7. Did you have any problems with government?

no

8. Do you spent a lot of money for homeschooling?

WAY less than I did on supplies and clothes for public school.

9. What was the reaction of your family and friend when you stated to homeschool?

My mother is very supportive, others are wishing me luck but not sure I am doing the right thing.

10. Do you teach your children your self and alone?

I spend time with both my kids, so I teach them and they learn on their own.

11. Do you join/belong to a homeschooling- group? How often you meet?

I don't know of any groups in my area, but am currently looking for one.

12. Were do your children have contact with other kids?

All their friends from when they were in public school, dance class, beauty pageants, summer days at the creek, and just playing around in the neighborhood.

13. What do your children at home when they learn? (science, English, foreign languages, ….)

Mostly reading, writing, language arts, and math. Other than that, they learn from life and vacations (field trips).

14. Do you have a daily plan what they have to do?

We have one, but don't follow it.

15. How do you think your childs future will look like?

I believe my kids will be very successful in whatever they do, they are prepairing for life in a great way and love it.
