HS my child - don't know how to proceed....

Hi all!

I have 2 boys -- 15 (10th grade) and 14 (9th grade) currently in a public school. My older son has (for SEVERAL years now -- since 3rd grade when his father and I divorced) refused to turn in homework and is getting BAD grades as a result. This year, he has also started getting in trouble at school -- nothing really bad, mostly after school detentions. I have told him if he doesn't get his act together I will pull him out and home school him. However, I do not want to pull my other son out, since he is not having the same problems, and is generally doing MUCH better than his brother. I live in Ohio. Can anyone give me any advice on how to proceed? I had a friend who home schooled her daughter and used her religion as the reason to pull her daughter out, but obviously, that won't work here unless I pull both boys, and I don't want to lie. I just feel that the public school system (we live in a city with over 200,000 people, so he is 1 of several hundred students in his school) has failed my son, and he has failed and refused to take advantage of the education he is being offered. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thanks!

I don't believe there's anything in the regulations...

I don't believe there's anything in the regulations saying you have to state your reasons for homeschooling, or that you have to homeschool all your children or none. You're not the first person to both homeschool and public school your children, and I'm sure you won't be the last.

Here's some info on homeschool groups in your state:
