How do you get children to do the things that they have learnt and
put together? I'm having a real struggle with my girls. They know
the sounds but either don't put there mind to it or just plain don't
want to do it. I need ideas. I wasn't planning to homeschool and
then I did so now its a real challenge for me to not get frusterated

First, I'd say back off a little. Don't pressure yourself or them to stay "on track". This will just make it more stressfull and less interesting for them.

Second, label everything in your house at their eye levels. They'll become very familiar with the words they see and probably be able to take similar words rather easily.

Third, have you considered that this particular approach just isn't working for them? Take a look at your local library and see what phonics systems are available there. You should be able to find a series of books My "f" soundbox by Moncure. This is a great set of books that each introduce a letter and its sound in a story.

Fourth, some of the Baby Einstein videos will still interest them, and some of them have copious labels on things. The music is great. You could also introduce them to Schoolhouse Rock videos (possibly available at the library).
