I read from the Queen of Clean (author Linda Cobb) to make a paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar. Rub into the stain. Let the paste stay on the stain for a few minutes. Rinse. Hope this helps.

Try x 14 mildew stain remover,

I am going to try this on an area of caulk on the tub. It is the one area that grows black mold. I have tried several products, but maybe I should take preventive measures and spray it every morning after all showers. I think, though I'll start with vinegar. My husband recently replaced the caulk, again. While it's on my mind, I should do it. Let me know if it works on the placemats.

I suggest you make a mixture of white vinegar and water, in equal amounts and dip the placemats in it. After a few minutes clean it gently. If it didn't work check out this guide on
how to wash placemats, it has suggested many different ways of cleaning placemats.
