4th Grade Essay

My son is in Grade 4.
I have problems checking my son's essays as we are not familiar with the scoring system.
We are using American Curriculum.
Furthermore, English is our second language.
So I want to know how the parents mark their child's essays?
How many words and paragraphs should be written for Grade 4 essay? Please help, we are new to America Curriculum.

There are so many other fun things to write other than essays. He could write a just so story, a comic strip, poetry, a mystery, a brochure about an interesting place, or a book review. There are lots more suggestions here in these two articles.
