There is a recent article in the American Academy of Family Practitioners recommending less than 2 hours a day of computer/tv/video time because of the dangers of childhood obesity. I don't think this was intended to include actual school time using a computer.

I feel that using a computer strictly for educational purposes is highly acceptable. You can have access to almost any book or resource instantly instead of having to travel or wait to get it. Educational tv / movies are fine every once in a while and gives a break from straight text book learning, however, they should only be used on occasion in my opinion. Free screen time I would recommend only about two hours a day free. Maybe for certain accomplishments they could earn extra screen privileges. Just my thoughts.
