stuffed-animal-around-the-world project?

Has anyone done that project one sometimes sees an article about, where a class sends a stuffed animal (or more than one) around the world?
I'm curious about whether any homeschooling families have done this. We have quite a few extra stuffed animals who don't really do their share of the housework around here, and could easily be used as educational tools instead of clutter.
My main concern is that I'm not sure it would be wise to put our private home address on the stuffed animal, for travellers to send postcards to. I was wondering if it would be better to ask a church or other local establishment (the library?) to be our "mail box," where we could check occasionally and see if we've gotten anything. It sounds like such an interesting project.
