Saxon Math
I'm glad I found this forum! I will be homeschooling a sixth grader this year who is a math wiz. I dislike math, I was always the history and language lover. She loves math and has scored a 99 on the Iowa test two years in a row. I am so math challenged that I have thought of hiring a tutor for her.
I would rather save money and buy the Saxon math kit but I'm just not sure I can teach her math, even with the help of a teachers manual.
Any thoughts?
I just don't want her to lose her math edge.
I know I could relearn the stuff right along with her,
just not sure that makes for the most effective teacher.

My daughter took her first year of Saxon last year in 6th grade. She came from Abeka and it was quite a struggle for her. My hubby is the Math wiz and tutored her everynight with Saxon.
The exercises were like 20-25 problems per night. This was excurating for her, but in the end she scored above average on her 6th grade SAT test in school as well as getting a "B" in the class. This year; new school but not as much homework. (She's happier about that than I am about that.)
BTW, I got the DIVE for 6th grade but didn't really use it, I probably should have. -LOL
Anyhoo, here is a Ebay link to take a look at what they are going for. At the time I got mines new for $49.00.

Everyday is a Gift, A Blessing, an Opportunity!
My son (pre-algebra level) loves Saxon and if you have not done math in decades, it explains, step by step, so it all comes back to you, better than when you were in high school. And, you can order the Saxon math curriculum along with the D.I.V.E. cd together at the www.learningthings.com web site. I have done this for a few years and the cd comes included in the package, so there is no chance that you have the wrong version of the cd. The Saxon math book was so explanatory though, that I only referred to the cd for a very few times during the school year.
