FAILED CRCT MATH PORTION EVEN IN SUMMER SCHOOL

Postby shereese davis epps » Fri Aug 05, 2011 3:56 pm

MY SON FAILED THE MATH PORTION OF THE CRCT FOR THE 2ND TIME, HE WAS TO BE PROMOTED TO 9TH GRADE, THE SCHOOL DENIED MY APPEAL...MATH ISNT HIS STRONGEST SUBJECT HOWEVER HE HAS IMPROVED...IS THERE ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO AS PARENTS BC WE HONESTLY FEEL THAT HE WASNT GIVEN PROPER LEARNING SKILLS AT HIS SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL FAILED AYP TWICE...WILL HOMESCHOOLING BE THE BEST THING FOR HIM AT THIS POINT. :(

If I had to guess, I'd say they failed to teach him the foundational math properly as well, in which case you really need to start from the very beginning and then test forward until you hit something he doesn't know or isn't doing properly. Start from there and work your way up. Everything in math builds on something else, and no amount of instruction at the 9th grade level is going to help if he's missing large pieces of 5th grade.
