Boot Camp?

Right now my kids are in public school, but I am considering homeschooling. Recently, a 4th grade boy in my Cub Scout Pack came in wearing a name tag type thing around his neck. I asked him about it and he said it was for "Boot Camp" and when questioned further he said, "Oh, it's just some after school thing." A few days later I was talking to a friend with a 4th grade son and she mentioned boot camp. Guess what it is? It's a special free tutoring session offered to the fourth graders specifically to help them pass the state achievement tests. I wonder how much actual teaching time is lost while they're "teaching to the test".

My son 13y.o used to attend boot camp for bad kids and with my son's experience it was really worth it. Teen boot camps are one of the most widely known alternatives for kids who are struggling in life.
