Afghanistan deployment looming

hey, my husband has volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan and will be going before too long. he has already served a full career in the U.S. National Guard. our children are 3 & 5 and the 5 yr old son is just now finishing up w/ his 1st yr of homeschool pre k. we have about 1 more month.

just wondering how in the world it is going to affect my son. i mean, it's hard on him when my husband leaves for a couple of weeks here & there do to job duties, but a year or more? i just don't know. we're starting to get involved in some groups b/c, i think, it will be good for him to fill some space. we go 1x/wk to library for prek - k readings and we're getting involved next month w/ a group called MOPS. we, of course, attend church regularly, homeschool m-f for anywhere b/ween 30-45 minutes & go to the park by our house.

yes, we fully support our husband & daddy. just looking to see if any of you have any thoughts or ideas on how you would handle this new situation. thanks y'all, in advance.

Well, here is what I've done, as I'm heading out of country for 6 months..

I've spoken with various guys that my son looks up to at church and
other groups, so that they will be paying some extra attention to him
whilst I am away.
He's staying involved in the band here also.

Mainly, just making sure that he has some of the guys sort of passing
through in my absence.

When he was younger and I was out on patrols he handled my absences
fairly well. It's been a while though.

oh... and pray lots.
