Need help finding large print book or books on CD

Postby Shrm098 » Tue Mar 08, 2011 2:26 pm

Hi,

I have a visually impaired 13 year old daughter and I am looking for large print books for her to read. We have been struggling with this for a while . (I have been enlarging pages and pages on a copier but this is just not possible for me to do that anymore). We considered a Kindle but the literature for her reading level is still rather limited and it is an additional expense that we can't afford right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sheri

When I began to read your question, my first thought was a Kindle because I was recently in a public place waiting and a lady sitting next to me showed me her Kindle. She showed me how she had enlarged the text to a size that was comfortable for her. Maybe that could be a Christmas gift?

Here are some sites that have children's books online for free. You could enlarge the size of the text on your computer.

http://childrensbooksonline.org/

http://www.magickeys.com/books/

http://en.childrenslibrary.org/

Also, the local public library usually has a large print section.......I believe my library even has this in the children's section.

Hope this helps some.

Large Print/CD reply and question

Postby clas701 » Thu Oct 25, 2012 3:58 pm

Thanks for posting this question. I have a 15 year old daughter that we have tried (unsuccessfully) to homeschool because she can't attend school due to migraine headaches. She is also unable to read for longer than 10-15 minutes without getting a headache. The headache can last all day or several days.
She also cannot watch TV or use the computer because of the glare. It doesnt matter at what distance she sits from the tv.
Does anyone know or use of a good DVD program that a person can easily listen to, but not necessarily have to watch in order to learn?
Any thoughts/suggestions for programs would be greatly appreciated.
Candice
